I am an incoming Assistant Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. My research agenda investigates the micro- and meso-level mechanisms that contribute to persistent gender inequalities in the contemporary United States.
In one stream of research, I examine beliefs about and experiences of sexual harassment in the workplace and their implications for gender inequality. In a second stream of research, I explore how gender identification shapes people’s health and wellbeing in ways that may contribute to gender disparities.
Methodologically, I use in-depth interviews to capture how people encounter and make sense of gendered phenomena in their daily lives. In tandem with this qualitative approach, I employ survey experiments to isolate possible causal mechanisms that may promote inequalities, often drawing on insights gleaned from my interview data.
My research contributes to sociological theories of sexual violence, gender identity, bias and discrimination, work and organizations, and health disparities.
